The Log Lugger – It’s a Girl Thing

It’s a strange phenomenon, but Log Luggers are rarely bought by men…….in the first instance.

You would think that in today’s world of murky divisions of labour, firewood would neatly fall on the male side of things. And it does.

But the male ego is such, that any aid for carrying firewood is frowned upon by most men. They think that if you don’t bring the wood in by the armfuls, with woodchips all over your clothes, bang into doors and walls as you go and ruin a few woolly jumpers, you’re not doing a good job.

It’s the girls who see the sense of a Log Lugger.

They’re the ones who buy them for the men in their lives. They ignore the bloke’s usual response of “what do I want that for?” and just get one, because they know what’s good for their men.

Now this is the interesting part.

The bloke grudgingly gives it a go.

Well it’s there isn’t it? He might as well use it. And surprise, surprise.

He finds that it works. It makes life easier and does the job better than an armful of splinters.

So now he starts making lists of all his hairy-chested mates who need one too and before long he’s our biggest devotee.

You see, lots of things influence our customers. Sure, quality and style are important. But who would have thought that the Log Lugger could be ego driven?

So it was with Carolyn Rasmussen, one of Australia’s leading historians. The first one she bought resulted in the standard “what do I want that for”. Which soon turned into “we should get another one for the second fire place”? And then “we should get one for Paul”. Carolyn thinks it’s nature not nurture that’s responsible. She says that every man has a firewood gene in there somewhere, which compels bare handed cartage only.

I can’t help with the ego factor, but since the devil is in the detail, I can tell you a little more about the log Lugger.

So keep reading.

The Log Lugger

The Log Lugger

1 It’s made with double thickness, natural Hessian. Because it’s the lightest and most durable.

2 A roomy 90cm long x 45cm wide (36″x 18″) with closed ends to keep the biggest logs from falling out.

3 Nylon abrasion patches resist wear and tear at both ends and add an elegant colour contrast.

4 Wooden stiffeners keep the sides from folding in, so loading is easy because the bag stays open.

5 Continuous, heavy duty webbing handles means you can safely carry the heaviest load. And open the door with ease.

6 Trimmed in burgundy with an inky blue logo, you’ll lug logs in style for a long time.

Here’s a snippet from Lucy, who gave the Log Lugger as a gift to her dad.

“Hello Carol
Dad loves his Log Lugger. Thank you for your amazing service. He was thrilled to pieces and has really enjoyed using it over the recent wet and cold nights as he settles in each night in front of the toasty fire.

Of even greater fascination to me though, was his response to your marketing material. He actually viewed your other products! This may sound ridiculous for me to sound so excited about it but if you knew my father you would understand my reaction. He is the world’s greatest cynic. I was intrigued at his very out of character behaviour so I asked him what prompted him to view your marketing material. His response was the 5% discount voucher and the lavender – he valued the personal touch and obvious care! Can you believe that? Of course you can. You’ve already proven this technique BUT – my father! – my father? I just would never have expected this response. Not in a million years! Well done Carol. “
